A young man in Fuqing of Fujian Province who drank wine to build up enough courage to reveal his love to a girl was reported to police after he was found hugging and murmuring "I love you" to a tree last Saturday night.

The man, in his early 20s, said he fell in love with a girl from a village nearby. He drank several cups of wine and took a bus to the village, planning to reveal his passion for the girl. When he got off, he was so drunk, he mistook a tree for his lover, hugging it tightly and murmuring "I love you" for two hours.

Police took him to the police station, and he had sobered up by morning.
