Can a child get a better education at home than in State-supported schools? Sun Changgong says yes and took his daughter out of school last year to be educated at home.

Sun, 55, stirred controversy in Jiaozuo, Henan, when he told his 10-year-old daughter, Sun Xiaoyu, to quit school. He read several books on education after he retired from a local bank in 1998.

Many of Sun Changgong's relatives and friends as well as school officials disagree with his decision, and Chinese law requires nine years of education in State-supported schools. But he is confident he can educate her at home to become an outstanding talent.
