Several thousand birds flew over and perched on a greenbelt in Minhang District of Shanghai last Saturday afternoon, shading the sky for about one hour.

The gathering started at about 5 pm after dozens of birds, including Chinese bulbuls and sparrows, circled the greenbelt and rested on eight towering camphor trees.

Soon more birds joined in, singing between trees and crowding the 2-hectare greenbelt. The gathering lasted for about one hour.

People nearby guessed that it was the huge trees and worms on them that attracted the birds.
