A highway in Yunnan Province was the scene of an unusual traffic jam last week, when a herd of elephants was blocked by fascinated onlookers.

Twenty wild elephants tried crossing the busy highway, but inconsiderate drivers parked their cars in their path in their excitement at seeing the huge beasts. It took two hours for the elephants to cross, with the adults shielding the young who were panicked by the onlookers.
