Changsha Zoo is publicly seeking a name for a rare spotted turtle that is more than 100 years old.

The ancient spotted turtle has recently moved into a 20-square-meter glass house in the zoo. It was determined last month by international zoologists to be an exceptionally rare species. The turtle might be the only female spotted turtle, and one of just five in total, that are still alive throughout the world.

The turtle, which is 80 centimeters long and 50 centimeters wide, weighs more than 40 kilograms. The turtle comes from Huangpu River in east China and has been living in the zoo in Hunan's provincial capital for more than 50 years.

Local experts are currently seeking male spouses for the spotted turtle to help save the rare species.
