An old woman surnamed He was tricked by her 8-year-old granddaughter, who had hidden 18,200 yuan ($2,350) in Danjiangkou, Hubei.

He called police for help on Wednesday after she found her life savings had disappeared when she returned home.

Police rushed to He's home after they received the call, but when they arrived, they didn't know whether to cry or laugh.

After being questioned by police, He's granddaughter, surnamed Xue, admitted she had hidden the money to scare her grandmother because the woman often scolded her.
