A pine tree standing in a remote mountain in Wushan County in Sichuan Province in Southwest China has been well protected for at least 1,000 years.

The tree, believed to be one of the largest in the world, is 43 meters tall, and its main trunk needs 10 adults with arms extended to hug it.

Experts from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization inspected the tree in 2005, and called it a green, living fossil witnessing the changes of history.
