Attracted by the quick gains from the stock market, some Shanghai parents are investing gift money their children received during Spring Festival, planning to teach the young generation how to manage their finances.

A mother surnamed Sun, a faithful stock investor for 13 years, bought some shares of a new stock with money from her first-grade son. She taught him to observe the market, predict the future trend and decide how to buy or sell the shares. Education, she says, is the point.

However, some parents criticized Sun, saying the boy was too young to understand the market and should focus on his studies.
