A small piece of land that emits light at night has surprised not only many local residents, but also geologists in Cunminzhuang Village, Fugou County, in Zhoukou, Central China's Henan Province.

Local villager Zhang Gengmin found the small piece of land on a new local highway one night last November, the Henan Commercial News reported. Light appeared to be shining from the soil. He reported his discovery to relevant government departments.

Local experts soon ruled out the possibility that the light was caused by mineral deposits and even warned that the light could contain radioactive elements.

An investigation to find out the source of the light is ongoing.
