A high school student majoring in arts grabbed the spotlight at a school
fashion show when she modelled a mini-skirt and hat made of thousands of
brooches.
The girl, Zhang Kaiying, called her design "danger spotlight" in reference to
the needles on the brooches, which are made of shiny metal. Zhang said she had
spent three weeks stringing all the brooches into a hat and skirt. To lower her
costs, Zhang asked her father, who works in Shanghai, to mail her 12,000
brooches because they are cheaper there. Zhang used 15,000 brooches.
